Place deer decoy in open area. |
These deer decoy placement and setup tips will teach you how to use a deer decoy to get your buck.
Good deer decoy placement is essential for success. Place your TailTRICK Deer Decoy in an open area so that deer can see it from a distance. Deer have a personal space boundary and don’t like to suddenly come upon another deer too close or unawares. Deer decoys are not for ambush purposes.
Place the tail side of the TailTRICK Deer Decoy facing the direction from which you hope to attract deer. It’s the tail motion that attracts bucks to TailTRICK Deer Decoys. Bucks see it from a distance and move towards it. Expect it! Plan for it!
Bucks will often stop at the decoy’s (deer’s) personal space boundary and stare. This is a great shot opportunity. Expect it! Plan for it! |
When you setup your deer decoy, never put scent on it, just near it.
Many bucks will move downwind of a decoy in order to try to identify the deer (decoy).
There may be dominant bucks in the area, whose scent (not your scent), may spook the buck that’s coming to your deer decoy setup. If a buck moves away, STAY POSITIVE and keep your eyes open. If he leaves, a bigger buck may come in or the first buck may return.
When choosing a location for deer decoy placement, always position yourself so that you can see bucks coming directly to the tail motion of the TailTRICK Deer Decoy setup.
Mind your shooting position so that your scent trail doesn’t cross the scent trail of the decoy. If your scent trail crosses the scent trail of the decoy, your hunt is over.
Never take a shooting position in front of or behind a deer decoy setup. There could be a hunter that you are unaware of, who mistakes the lifelike TailTRICK Deer Decoy for a real deer and shoots it. If you are in front of or behind the decoy, you may be shot by accident. Also, deer approaching the deer decoy setup will be focused on it. If you are in front of or behind the deer decoy, the approaching deer will see you move.
When packing up, always approach the TailTRICK Deer Decoy from the thin side of the decoy. Never stand in front of or behind a deer decoy setup when setting up or packing up.
Always wear Hunter’s Orange clothing when approaching or handling any deer decoy.
